Although not strictly the first Step [uppercase], this is nonetheless my first step [lowercase] on my odyssey through non-League football.
Excited!
Today I am revisiting somewhere I know very well, the Bobby Robson Sports Centre in Ushaw Moor, Deerness Valley.
Here, my own kids play mini-League for DVFC and I have spent many hours over recent years standing around in all weathers watching them. It will be odd and, in the context of my quest, very satisfying to be a disinterested spectator for once!
I have my trusty camera-phone, and I'll see how well it might take action shots.
I also need plenty of cool fluids, because we're in the midst of a heatwave and the sun is already blazing at 8:00am. (I write this partly to sustain me in future winter months when I'll be needing plenty of hot fluids instead!).
So, day one.
