So this is just over mid-way through the first Step on my quest.
I'm loving every minute of it. Bring on the next lot.
Nine venues thus far, covering eight clubs:
- Bobby Robson Centre
- Framwellgate School
- Welfare Ground
- Deerness Heights
- Dunston Park
- Coxhoe Park
- Sherburn Park
- Old Fire Station
- Belle Vue Park
The provisional plan for October is:
5th Wingate, Murton or Spennymoor
12th Wingate or Murton
19th Wingate or Spennymoor
26th Wingate (or a week off!?)
That'll leave me with Darlington Blackwell Meadows, Hylton CW and Coundon & Leeholm over the following weeks...and then I'm done at this Step.
There are various knockout competitions starting around now, and so there's always a temptation to check other venues that Durham Alliance teams are sent to, but I am determined not to be distracted by them. My quest is to visit each home ground on a Step-by-Step basis (thus meandering skywards to Step 1 in a kind-of organised manner), and so maybe one day I'll get there anyway?
So far, no casual spectator problems anywhere. Never got lost, never got too wet or cold, never got embroiled in rowdy spectator violence :-)
The only slight concern is that matches are sometimes postponed at very short notice and, although anyone connected to either team would likely find that out, any disinterested [though not uninterested] spectators like me don't get that information very quickly. I haven't been caught out yet, but posts on the NonLeagueZone Forum (an invaluable resource!) imply others have.
And only once so far have I had to take a flask of coffee...! The summer has lingered longer than expected, so most games have been OK weather-wise. The aim was to get this League done before winter arrives, and (without tempting fate!) that shouldn't be an issue.
