NORVENMUNKI's COMMENTS

Today's weather:
rain, cloudy, chilly, mostly still

NorvenMunki's Diary...

I have arrived a little early today, and so I parked-up in the nearby town and walked down to the Recreation Club grounds. The onsite carpark is pitted with potholes, all filled with water after recent heavy rain.

Many other NPL games have been called-off today due to waterlogged pitches, but here it's game-on after a 9am pitch inspection.

The atmosphere is friendly: all ages present, happy youths larking about, good banter, nice spirit. A cameraman clambers into his tower, and gets a bit of lighthearted mockery.

The clubhouse is pretty quiet but everyone is welcoming. If you walk through from the bar area, there's a function space and kitchen beyond. This is where you'll find the Pikes Pantry. The hot chocolate is super-choccy and very rich!

Taking a mooch around the pitch, you notice the very pronounced slope on the playing surface, dropping from east down to west.

Pickering are bottom of the table as of this morning, and craving a result to pick up their spirits. The crowd is a tad subdued as we kick-off and nerves are evident on and off the pitch.
By the end, though, it's honours-even and both sides have something to take away from the encounter.

A nice place, with plenty of character, and well worth a visit. Maybe combine it with a trip to the beautiful countryside hereabouts?
