NORVENMUNKI's COMMENTS
Today's weather:
light rain turning heavier, cloudy, light chilly breeze
NorvenMunki's Diary...
It's a trudge up the hill to Holt House, and today the mist hangs low over the Colne rooftops so you don't really get the benefit of the view. On a clearer day, you can see for miles.
The drizzly weather and grey clouds add to that quintessentially miserable grass-roots-footie atmosphere.. and I love it!

The car park is busy with fans of the footie and overspill into the Colne & Nelson Rugby Club next door. I pull my bobble hat on extra tightly for fear of it being whipped away into the afternoon greyness.
Inside, I talk to the locals. They are surprised that the game is on, actually. It's pretty muddy. Apparently, they called off last week's game and the general opinion is that those conditions were actually better than today! Different ref, I guess?
I pick up a warming hot chocolate from the jolly snack-bar man. I take a wander around to grab some photos. There are naked trees shivering in the outfield.

The music soundtrack on offer is clear and quite good, but weirdly it's only from cover artists doing top current hits. I guess that saves PRS fees?
In addition, there's some good singing from both sets of fans, and a good trading of banter.
The floodlights switch on at kick-off, with an audible big clunk and a long electric hum from the switch box.

The pitch has a pronounced slope running diagonally from NW to SE corner. It adds to the fun of the game, as both sets of players get to grips with the conditions.
All-square at the close. A drizzly day on the hillside, but lots of warmth from the friendly locals and a delightful place to tap into the glory of non-League football spirit. I wish them well. I wish them sunshine.
