NORVENMUNKI's COMMENTS
Today's weather:
dry, clear, winter sun
NorvenMunki's Diary...
There is a very large car-park onsite here, but it suits me today to park on the road near the neighbouring housing estate and walk through the tree-lined path.

Inside, there's an open area at the entrance with a wooden picnic table next to the snack bar.

There are bicycles propped up against the perimeter billboards.

The site is in an ongoing state of building/repair. The southeast section is barriered off to spectators, but people just go there anyway.
Even though it's January, I put my shades on to counter the low winter sun to the southwest.

Even though it's January, I put my shades on to counter the low winter sun to the southwest.

A train trundles by. The railway line runs along the southern flank, up on a wooded banking. As well as the usual side floodlights, there are also two extra behind the western end goal.
I go for my customary hot chocolate... and miss the home side's opening goal! But the hot choc is excellent, and the bacon sarnie is great too, and freshly prepared.
The floodlights come on at the start of the second half, the main tall ones but not the shorter extras. As the sun disappears, the evening chill kicks in and the temperature seems to drop radically.
In the final seconds, deep into stoppage time, we see a clinching second Ponte goal: 2-0. Then, deeper still into the added-on time, a deflected shot creeps beyond the visiting keeper into the bottom corner. A cruel twist. Game over: 3-0.
The contest was much closer than the scoreline suggests.
On the way home, I pick up a commemorative bag of Pontefract cakes from Morrison's. It seems only fitting, a taste of Yorkshire on my journey home.
